Maverick Shoot 1

This image captures the enjoyable family atmosphere I refer to in my brief.

This is in my opinion a better framed version, however the moment had passed.

I avoided using a flash, because it is too intrusive during a lesson. Which has meant that some images could have been far more potent.

This is one of the shots I was more pleased with. I like the motion blur on the foot and general composition.

Problems I have encountered include the clutter in the academy. Making for very untidy backgrounds and limited control.

During the session Karl Stevens would test the black belt candidates on their syllabus, if one got a question wrong, everyone was made to do 20 press-ups.

Here you can see again the problem I had with exposure, extremely difficult to capture fast movements in low light, even with a high iso. ISO 1600 - 1/100 - f.5

Shot under the same setting as the previous image, but a far better exposure. Trophies can be seen in the background. I feel now that the image would have been better had I taken it slightly closer and a little more to the right hand side.

Jumping side kick.

This would have made a good shot, but unfortunately every time he went for the kick he would blink on the moment of impact.

Here I shot continuously to capture 'one step sparring' this is a sequence of set techniques to defend from a single punch.

Defence from a knife.

I tried to keep both the practitioners in the shot as well as the picture on the wall. However by doing this I ended up having both with the edges just outside the frame.

Lining up in 'horse stance' a traditional Tae Kwon Do style. If I could get a few more images like this I could show some of the diversity within the academy.
